Psychoeducation, Therapy, and Support

Why Should You Try Group?

  • Do you ever feel stuck?
  •  Feel like you know better?
  • Trapped in your same old patterns of handling things and have difficulty shifting
  • Repeating the same problems over and over?
  • Why?  Why can’t you just stop doing these things to yourself?
Dr. Marr is no stranger to the complicated nature of humans. She has struggled with these same questions herself.  Watch this video and learn more about why she thinks group support and education are the keys to unlocking our potential for change.

How to Make Change Happen -
Psychoeducation and Therapy Group

Have you ever been in therapy a while and then start thinking, how am I supposed to start changing all of this?  Or maybe you have never been to therapy and the idea of doing it one on one seems daunting.  Or you are just plain curious how our brains’ tick and what it takes to change old habits that you are not so fond of anymore.  This group is meant to walk you through what a change process looks like, what basic skills of change are helpful to anyone (therapy or no therapy), and then takes it one step further and supports you in focusing on the areas that could most benefit you.  You can do this group as a stand alone service, however it also works very well as a compliment to individual therapy.  You come to group to get the skills and go to your therapist and work on the specifics in your own life.

Improve Your Relationships

Why do relationships feel so hard sometimes? GREAT QUESTION!  Dr. Marr educates us on Co-Dependency, which she explains as any behaviors that are meant to reduce conflict or discomfort in others at the expense of oneself, are often at the heart of our relationships exhaustion and feelings of under appreciation.

That is a broad definition and touches almost all of us.  Dr. Marr has newly added this offering. As she has expanded her work with women in midlife as an area of expertise, she started to become more aware of the co-dependent tendencies socially conditioned into us.  There are also many of us that experienced this in childhood in our families or have entered into relationships with friends and partners who struggle with this.  Anyone can benefit here.  And just like her other groups, she always has an educational topic to discuss that she brings to the group, so no one is obligated to share any part of their own stories unless they want to and are comfortable doing so.

Grief and Loss Therapy Group

Dr. Marr has been helping people with grief issues for well over a decade.  If you are looking to find a group therapy approach to this issue, then her group will definitely be for you.  She always has an educational topic on grief for the group members to discuss each week that they meet, so no one is obligated to share anything personal.  In fact, if all you want is to learn about grief this is still a good fit for you.  She also allows opportunity for individuals to process their own personal experiences as they feel ready to.  The collective connection of the group itself is really quite a healing part of the journey.

Women's Group - Therapy, Education, and Support

As a clinical psychologist of two decades and as a twice divorced women herself, Dr. Marr understands the difficulties and despair that many women are facing.

Typically, the women in this group:

– Feel a sense of lack
– Struggle to articulate how they feel to others
– Experience guilt about how they’re feeling
– Feel they have lost their way
– Are struggling in their relationships
– Have become resigned to accepting lives they don’t love

This group helps these women to achieve remarkable breakthroughs through:

– Enhanced mindfulness and self-awareness
– Heightened self-acceptance and self-compassion
– Increased attention to and regard for self-care
– Improved capacity to act independently and make free choices
– A growth and success mindset

This Women’s Only group is focused on: creating lasting skills for making change stick; recognizing patterns in relationships that are not serving us and building new healthy relationships; learning what real self care is and creating new self care plans that preserve and restore our energy so we want to stay in our lives and not just escape them; and (last but certainly not least) a supportive group of women to lift you up and help you with your healing in these areas.

The group has an educational and group process component. We meet 2 times/month, 1st for review of a topic and 2nd for all group members to process what they have learned and how it is applying (or not) to their lives. It includes a workbook and online materials, so you are getting more material than just the two hours of group with the charge for group services. Group starts in March 2023 and runs the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 6pm CST. Currently it is an online group and it may move to in person.
